The slide is very easy to learn, and can sound extra funky on an electric guitar. It’s called the slide because you are actually sliding your finger up or down the fretboard while you are picking a string.

The Slide Up The slide up is represented by the “/” symbol. In the below example, you want to slide from 5th to the 7th fret while when you pick the note. You do this while still holding the note. Don’t forget there are thousands of popular songs on the web that have slides in them, so mastering this will enable you to play more like a professional! When sliding, you need to maintain pressure on the string, otherwise you’ll mute the note. This is the single most vital part of the slide:
*** Make sure that your finger stays on the fretboard! ***
Well that’s all folks when it comes to up and down slides. They only take a few days of practice to master because they are super easy. The most difficult part is holding your fingers down and sliding through to the correct note. You'll have it down in no time.
