The company’s website advertises that you should be able to mow through Unlock the Guitar in a single weekend (48 hours), so this program is designed to give you quick background on learning to play guitar.

Pros:

• The program is available as a set of e-books, and saving and navigating the books is simple if you have access to Adobe Acrobat Reader (a free download).
• Each e-book is organized logically and contains solid information, including photos and online audio examples.
• The first e-book, The Beginner’s Guide to Unlocking the Guitar, begins with important basic information on finding and purchasing the right equipment.
• Program information also outlines the importance of properly holding and caring for your guitar.
• You are able to set your own schedule, moving through the 3 e-books at your own pace. **$100 off sale right now. Also, the program builds on itself, returning to important content repeatedly.

Cons:

• The initial e-book is a large file, which can be difficult for many e-mail servers to accommodate.
• No sample songs are included in the first e-book (although the 3rd e-book does include sample songs).
• Without video access, it is sometimes difficult to visualize how something is played while listening to audio or looking at photos.
• Information can become a bit repetitive as you try to move beyond the basic level.
• Most information remains at a somewhat basic level, so this might help with initial guitar skills, but the program will not be helpful for long.
• Bonus section, “Beginning Singing Techniques” doesn’t help you learn to play guitar.

Online technical support was quick to respond to our downloading issues, but it was disappointing that we had issues in the first place.

Overall Thoughts:
The repetitive nature of the content in Unlock the Guitar by Jared Crebs was borderline annoying, despite the positive aspects that the audio clips and sample pictures added. Additionally, Unlock the Guitar’s coverage of chords was a bit lacking, and an in-depth knowledge of chords is absolutely essential to learning to play guitar. While the beginning information is quite lengthy, specifically guiding you in purchasing, tuning, and holding your guitar, we were disappointed with the lack of more in-depth information.
